Beautiful Champasak

On our way back from the Bolaven plains, we took a detour to Champasak. It was a long day driving the motorbike but it was the greatest feeling ever coming from a higher altitude where we had been cold (we even got rain on the way down), to the warmth of the sun setting on the Mekong river!

Despite the pain in our bums (we literally had to stop every 30 minutes towards the end to stand on our feetand regain senstations in our buttocks), we really enjoyed this ride…

We arrived around 6pm in the town of Champasak and found a great spot to spend the night: Champasak with Love. We paid only 5$ for a very descent double room right on the Mekong! It was the best spot to watch an amazing sunrise and coffee was delicious!

The town is pretty much spread out on one street facing the river with a strong french colonial architecture, we found some very nice houses there!

But the detour we took in Champasak before returning to Paske was mostly to visit the Wat Phu temple, which we did under a dry burning heat… It is a beautiful archeological site with few tourists there (a nice change after Angkor Wat). We thought the place must be even more pretty in rainy season when the big frangipani trees are blooming… And the view from the top of the temple after climbing the steep old steps was gorgeous!

We came back in the evening in Pakse, right on time for happy hour by sunset on the roof top of Paske Hotel and Restaurant! Best spot ever in the city with delicious Passion Mojitos!
